The little gestures are why I keep choosing rhodeway. Once, after a seizure left me very weak, they let me rest without charging for late checkout. They may not remember that stay, but it meant a lot. They’ve also noticed when I was booked into an upstairs or smoking room with my kids and baby, and switched me to somewhere better or easier to access. The place is nice despite the great deals, and it’s always clean and actively maintained. The pool stays clear and gets cleaned regularly, even in cooler weather. Staff are helpful and make check-in or adding nights easy. There’s always tea and hot chocolate, which my kids love, plus a waffle maker and a nicely laid out breakfast. They’ve always been so accommodating. I always choose rhodeway.

The front desk clerk was unfriendly from the moment she said hello. She asked whether I wanted a smoking room and I said yes, then she did the paperwork. I was traveling for my adult niece, who had just left the hospital, and realized afterward that I should have asked for a downstairs room. I said I’d be fine not smoking and could go outside, but she told me there were no smoking rooms downstairs, then said there were no downstairs rooms available at all. It was 10 p.m., the hotel looked only 10-15% full, and curtains were open on downstairs windows, so I didn’t believe her. I felt she thought I was lying. I can’t help wondering if it was my skin color or how I looked. Maybe she’d have treated me better if I had blue eyes, blond hair, and looked like I made $200,000 a year. It was a terrible experience.

It was a quiet stay and the room was clean. Breakfast in the morning was convenient, and Dawn at the front desk had lots of suggestions for good places to eat.

The breakfast was just okay, and it was carried out. They brought clean towels every day, and the room itself was clean, but it smelled bad and I never felt clean while I was in it. The hotel is very dated, with old furniture, and the bathroom floor tile finish was peeling. I have no idea how it ended up with a 4.2-star rating. I can only give it two stars, and even that feels generous.

Dawn checked us in and was pleasant and courteous. She knew the area well and recommended places to eat. It’s a great little hotel.
