Signal Hill Motel

The front desk woman was friendly and tried to help, but she couldn’t fix the overall disaster of a stay. The room was so filthy I worried about my health: stained sheets that looked like they hadn’t been washed in ages, sticky, grimy furniture, and a general sense that it hadn’t been properly cleaned in months. I arrived late, with nowhere else nearby at 1 a.m., so I stayed, dressed in my jacket and pants because I couldn’t bring myself to touch the sheets. The tap water ran yellow for the first 10 seconds and smelled strangely like ginseng. Even the towel had a cumin-like odor. Street noise and sounds from neighboring rooms kept me from sleeping, like being beside a construction site. I booked two nights through Booking.com, but won’t return for the second, refund or not. The property manager wouldn’t answer calls and wouldn’t cooperate even after Booking.com approved a free refund. This felt like a filthy, unsafe health hazard, not just an uncomfortable stay. Avoid it.

Nick went way above what we expected last night. He was a charm, extremely helpful, and his charisma caught me by surprise. Thanks so much for the awesome room! It was clean, comfortable, affordable, and the service was excellent, all five stars. I can’t believe this is a two-star motel. Surely it’ll move up soon ;) I’d love to win a free night whenever I win 🤩

The room cost too much for what we got. The clerk was rude, and the last room hadn’t been cleaned, just cleared out. They gave no credit. It wasn’t nice, clean, or cheap. Don’t stay here.

It’s a cute-looking place with real potential, and I hope they do well. Starting a business is challenging, but the hotel needs much more attention to detail and professionalism. I was told I’d booked the “best room,” yet I didn’t feel safe because the door could be unlocked from either side and there wasn’t a proper second lock inside. The shower curtain had waste or dirt down it, and there was a crushed bug mark with what looked like a shoe print in the wall. The bedding had cigarette burns or holes, plus dried fluid on it and the pillowcases. The towels need attention or replacing, and there were a few dead bugs on the floor. The TV didn’t work properly until the front desk helped. Overall, it wasn’t pleasant. I’d prepaid, but left abruptly without staying and asked for a refund. I have photos of everything I saw, but felt this description was enough. I would have posted them if they hadn’t refunded me.
