For the price, it’s hard to beat this place. We’ve stayed at the Grizzly Lodge many times and keep choosing it again. The owners and staff are great and always willing to help. It’s right by the park’s NE Entrance, so getting to Lamar Valley is quick and easy. The rooms and building are older, but they’re clean, and having a fridge and microwave is a bonus you don’t get with in-park lodging. Just expect a rustic place, not high-end lodging. That’s part of what makes it so good.

We arrived really late on Friday, but the owners had left us a note and a key. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were soft. It’s only minutes from Yellowstone’s NE entrance and handy for getting to Cooke City.

We couldn’t get anyone on the phone, then arrived to find the office marked “closed,” the door locked, nobody inside, and just one truck in the parking lot. We had to scramble for a last-minute reservation in Gardiner, almost two hours away. I contacted the hotel through Hotels.com afterward. The manager said someone is always on site and that they never got my calls, but there wasn’t anyone there when we arrived. I hardly ever write reviews, which tells you how bad the customer service was. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

We were in town for a nearby wedding and the owner made our stay. We’d forgotten several things we needed to get ready and cook in the cabin, so he lent us his personal pots and cutlery. He was absolutely amazing, and we’d happily come back.

We came in after dark, and Ashley and Josh were so welcoming. They pointed out places to eat nearby, then spent about 20 minutes chatting with us after check-in. They told us about the owners and how harsh the winters get around here. Coming from Kansas City, MO, it was a whole different world 😂 The place is cozy, the price is amazing, and it’s close to Lamar Valley in a really cute area. They have a bonfire most nights, too. We’d definitely stay again.
