Our cabin had a wonderful view, and we were lucky enough to spot mule deer passing by the bedroom window and fox kits playing in a den right beside it. Our younger son was playing cards there when he saw them. Lots of nature photographers were staying at Silver Gate, and it was fun watching them head out. We also picked up some good tips on where to see bears and their cubs. We loved how quiet and remote the cabin felt, with all that wildlife around. I already miss having coffee on the front porch and watching the kits. Cabin 8 had just the right space for our family of four, and the views were amazing. Getting to Lamar Valley was very convenient. We were there early in the tourist season, so restaurant openings were hit or miss. Check with the staff about what’s open each night. We went to Cooke City both evenings since it had more options. We’d highly recommend staying near the Northeast Gate. It seems like fewer people do.

We arrived after dark in September 2025, and the floodlight wasn’t working. The cabin window had been left open, the heat was off, and it was freezing. It took hours to warm the place up. The restaurant next door was recommended, but it barely had any food and was mostly a drinking menu. I wish I’d known Cooke City was only three miles away. We would have stayed there, where the motels and restaurants were well lit. I do recommend Silver Gate Guide service, though. Worth every penny!
Cozy and practical, though a little dated, and not the cleanest. I wish I’d known to bring dish soap, since washing dishes with a bar of soap wasn’t ideal. The bathroom fan didn’t work, and the toilet clogged easily. There was food left in the fridge by previous guests. The packages were unopened and still in date, so we ate it, and paid it forward too. The general store is a great stop. Please support this small local business and buy something there!
After 10 days of Yellowstone’s rat race, rude drivers and near crashes, this place felt like a breath of fresh air. The people were great, and everything was quaint, quiet, and clean. Friendly conversation, no politics or BS. I’ll be back, 100%.
The little village has such a nice feel, and everyone was friendly and helpful. We loved the cute, cozy cabins and waking up to those great views. It’s close to Yellowstone, and the little goats were a treat too 🐐 We only stayed two nights and wished we’d booked more.
