For $100, getting a private room with temperature control and breakfast in this spot is a steal. Silver Plume is a historic town, and this is a historic building, so the loose dogs around town shouldn't come as a surprise if you look into the place before booking. I don't understand reviews that complain an old building is old. If you want a generic hotel, stay at the Mircotel or another big chain. Use your eyes and your brain.

Lauren was phenomenal, and the muffins and breakfast burritos were so good. The shared bathrooms stayed clean, and since the shower and sink are separate from the toilet, we never really had to wait. The old house has creaky floors, though that's part of the time-travel feel of the hotel and town. We stopped here between Denver and Breckenridge, and it worked perfectly. The town is lovely to walk around, but don't expect shops, so take care of that beforehand. If history or just a fun experience appeals to you, I can't recommend it enough.

The owner was friendly and easy to communicate with, and had made burritos and baked goods. Parking was ample, and this cozy guesthouse is tucked into the mountains. I'd come back. I stayed in April 2026. The highway is nearby, but the traffic was so faint that it didn't bother me. Still, anyone wanting complete quiet might find it a dealbreaker.

The location was great, getting in was easy, and the hosts were very responsive. We also appreciated the snacks, game room, and stable WiFi. The hosts were kind and sweet, but we had a mixed weekend and wouldn't stay again. The water damage throughout the property was severe enough that the place felt dirty and uninhabitable. In every room, there was visible mold-like growth behind peeling wallpaper, large water stains across the ceilings, and holes in the walls covered with fake plants stapled over water-stained spots. The house also seemed to have major structural problems: you literally walk uphill from one side to the other. I'm no structural engineer, but the condition and general disrepair worried me. I know historic homes can be difficult to work on, but if this property can't be properly maintained, it shouldn't remain open as a hotel, possibly exposing guests to mold and who knows what else.

I met mostly interesting, sophisticated individuals and families during my two nights there. Many were international or from out of state, and breakfast is served in a common room. The antique Victorian hotel is carefully and artfully furnished, and well maintained. Lauren, the owner, was attentive and enjoyable, and knows a lot about local history, geography, and the after-ski scene. The hotel is right by passes and gulches for hiking or backcountry skiing. Loveland, the nearest ski resort, is a hidden gem of the Rockies.
