Best Western Northwoods Lodge

The dinner was excellent, and the restaurant and lounge on the property were wonderful. Hospitality was great too. When the shuttle wasn’t available, GM Dave picked us up himself in his truck.

The manager was nice and brought new coffee pods after we found the ones in our room, and throughout the hotel, were expired. Breakfast was okay, but the cleanliness was awful. We’d asked the attendant for their nicest suite, then arrived to a room that hadn’t been cleaned, vacuumed, or mopped. There was white crusty stuff in the fridge and on the floor by the garbage can, and the toilet hadn’t been cleaned. We had to clean the Jacuzzi ourselves before using it. After we filled it and turned on the jets, big black chunks floated around the tub. NASTY! The shower made a loud squeaking noise the whole time, and finding a crusty towel folded into my pillowcase made me think they don’t change the cases between stays. We paid almost $500 for two nights, and instead of nice photos from our stay, I came away with pictures of a filthy room. We’ll never stay here again for another reason, too. We called a while back to reserve two rooms, but because we have a Chihuahua, we ended up staying down at the lodge after being told there were no pet-friendly rooms. Then, while we were eating breakfast, a guy walked through the lobby with his adorable Chihuahua.

The sauna could use some attention, but the pool area and hot tub were clean, and we had a great king bed. It was just an overnight husband-and-wife getaway. The stay was what you’d expect from a Best Western hotel.

The rest of the hotel was great, but the hot tub being out of service put a damper on our anniversary trip. After driving four hours, we’d been looking forward to using it. If I’d known, I would have booked somewhere else. It wasn’t a cheap night, and we weren’t offered anything for the hot tub being unavailable :(
