The Stranger Lodge

The location is good, and the beds are pretty comfortable and clean. Still, it’s sad to see this place go downhill. It used to have such a cute, kitschy feel, like a warm home or cottage. Now it feels messy, and nearly all that warmth and character is gone. I hope they find a niche that doesn’t end up bland and run of the mill.

We liked the hot tub and used their yoga mats on the little covered deck for some yoga. Our room was really nice, and our friend's suite was especially cool, with a living room and a garage door that opened outside. The place works basically like an Airbnb, so there’s no desk check-in. It’s right next to the amazing Brunchies sandwich food truck, and the location was good for biking around Sisters easily.

We’ve been here three times now and keep returning because we love this unique little business and the experience. It’s reasonably priced and close enough to walk into the town center, which is just what we wanted. There’s a charming little office and store, outdoor seating, and a fire pit with incredible mountain views. They’re dog friendly and have a pen for dogs. The manager is delightful and very accommodating. I like that they keep improving the original motel in ways that suit their guests, from outdoor enthusiasts to people attending the rodeo, folk music festival, quilt show, or just passing through Sisters. We’ll keep coming back.

Left Coast Lodge is now our go-to for visits to my folks in Sisters. It checks all the boxes for me, my husband, and our rescue dog Maggie. The quiet made a real difference for my comfort and sleep, since I have hyperacusis, sound sensitivity, and hyperosmia, heightened sensitivity to smells. Having on-site management was valuable after past stays at rentals and other hotels in Sisters where no one was available late at night or early in the morning. The managers here were welcoming, kind, and went above and beyond to accommodate us, with true dog-loving hearts. We’ve had bad experiences elsewhere, where pet owners were overcharged and given the shabbiest, smelliest rooms. Nothing like that here. Our pet-friendly room was sparkling clean, cozy, and nicely decorated with charming vintage touches. Hardwood floors, comfortable beds, and a kitchenette made it even better. The setting is beautiful, with the Three Sisters mountains behind the property. There’s a hot tub, ping pong tables, picnic tables, shaded spots, and open space for games, great for families or groups. We might rent several units for a family reunion or special celebration. I have a few small ideas to make the stay even better, though these aren’t complaints. The units are compact, so a little more storage for guests would help, maybe small drawers in place of the bedside shelves. When we sat up to watch TV, the bed rolled slightly away from the headboard and our pillows slipped into the gap. Anchoring it or closing that space would be nice, but it didn’t affect our stay. And adding tiny salt and pepper packets near the utensils and coffee sugars in the kitchenette would be handy. We forgot salt for our microwave popcorn, which could have used some. 😊 A big thank you to the gracious hosts, who welcomed us with a bottle of my favorite sparkling cider. We’d missed the open house earlier that day, and it was exactly what I needed, such a thoughtful touch. The 11 a.m. checkout was perfect, too, especially since it’s easy to catch up on rest in these quiet, comfortable units. Highly recommend Left Coast Lodge. We’ll definitely be back.
