SpringHill Suites Slidell

The location worked pretty well for our Mardi Gras trip, but the hotel itself was a mess. The tub was still dirty, the sofa looked like it had been picked up off the street, and the plumbing was terrible. The hotel phone didn’t work, so I couldn’t reach the desk after calling several times when my kids and I were scared for our lives because someone was banging on our door. We had to call the police. Housekeeping wasn’t doing a good job, and the free breakfast was pointless, with cold, awful food. This was one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in for a long time. It needs to do much better, and I wouldn’t book again even if it were the last option. 0/10.

The room had a strong musty smell, like water had been spilled on the floor and never dried, though the AC worked well. Our Bonvoy room key didn’t work here, but the receptionist was very courteous and quickly got us replacement cards. Breakfast was basic, and the attendants kept everything ready. The coffee, though, tasted like it had been made by someone who doesn’t drink coffee, so I went out to find something more palatable.

After a long drive, we arrived at SpringHill Suites Slidell, LA around 1 a.m. The desk attendant was friendly and tried to help, but we were sent through three rooms, and every one was dirty and poorly maintained. There were stains on sofa beds, food and candy in the ice containers, trash under a trundle bed, and torn bedding and towels. With three children along, the whole thing was extremely frustrating and unacceptable for a Marriott property. Housekeeping was lacking, so we had to clean the room ourselves. At checkout, nobody apologized, and we were charged in full. This hotel needs serious improvement in cleanliness, maintenance, and accountability. It doesn’t meet Marriott standards.

The room was okay, though the mini fridge was tiny. At check-in, one of the two women at the desk was very rude, while the younger one was nice. My company had booked and paid for my stay, but the older woman wanted me to pay $1,100 for the week. Since it was late, I called someone from work, who said they’d put it on a card and sort it out later. The older woman wouldn’t let him pay by phone, so the younger employee called the manager, who approved entering the card manually. I’ll ask to stay somewhere else for the last two weeks of my trip.
