The Landsby

The Landsby is attractive inside and out, right in the middle of Solvang. Our spacious Balcony King (#10 avoid) was nicely furnished, but it took 3-5 minutes for hot water to reach the faucet or shower, and the heating didn’t warm the room quickly. Much of the room was too dark to see properly at night. The 15%+- in taxes and fees were already a lot, so the extra $20 per night for parking was irritating, especially with the city’s free lot right beside the inn.

The staff were very sweet and accommodating, and we enjoyed breakfast at Mad and Vin. But the hotel didn’t feel worth the price, with just mediocre amenities. Our room was above the lobby on the second floor, so we heard everything happening below. The TV was old and far from the bed, the coffee maker didn’t work properly and spilled because the paper cups were too small, and the towels felt cheap and didn’t absorb much.

We stopped by the Landsby bar for drinks on NYE, though we weren’t hotel guests. The staff were warm and friendly, and didn’t rush us even though we arrived close to closing time. Next time we’re in Solvang, we’d like to stay at the hotel and try the restaurant.

We stayed in a deluxe garden king room, which was nice, with comfy robes and slippers. The attached restaurant had great food, and there was a cute little garden. The location was perfect. The only downside was the early noise: a delivery or garbage truck beeped while backing up, and landscaping workers were trimming the bushes.
