Econo Lodge Somers Point

I stayed for nine days this year, making it three years in a row, and I won't be back. The housekeeping situation alone was a problem. The website says longer stays should get service every third day, but nobody came until day seven, after I complained at the office. I had to buy toilet paper, had trash bags in the back of my pickup, and needed clean towels. When I brought it up, the guy gave me attitude and said I had to come tell him if I needed anything. I thought housekeeping was part of what you pay for. The money side was unsettling too. At check-in I was asked for a $100 deposit for "Excessive Housekeeping" issues. The signs kept changing: first it was $100, then a new sign said $150. It seemed tied to bringing a pet, smoking in the room, and, by checkout, having more than the registered number of guests. When I asked where the $100 sign had gone, it wasn't there anymore. We argued mildly, and after I said I didn't have to stay, he charged me $100. I used my debit card so I'd have a record, but the receipt and bank statement showed a purchase, not a deposit. I asked three times during my stay when I'd get the money back. Each time I was told both that I hadn't been charged and that it would come back at checkout. It didn't come back Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. I finally got it on Thursday, day five. I felt I was lied to at every step about that money. And the advertised "FREE WIFI" barely worked. I had to walk around the parking lot with my networks screen open and wait for it to appear. Once connected, it dropped after 10-15 minutes, so I'd repeat the process. In the first six days I used 4g of data. On my 2g plan that added $60 to my monthly bill, at $20 per extra gb. That's not free wifi. Management knew about the problem. It was the same in all three years I stayed, with no improvement, though they thanked me for reporting it and said it would help future guests. The operators don't seem honest or concerned about guests' experiences, and I expect they'll keep charging what they can while people have bad stays.
