Farmhouse Stay

The kitchen brought back such a vivid memory: coffee brewing, Christmas music playing, and the old windows above the farmhouse sink made me feel like I was a little girl in my grandmother’s kitchen again. Wendy opened her calendar at Christmas so we could stay near my husband’s mom while she was dealing with cancer. We wanted somewhere cozy instead of a hotel, and having the whole house gave us the perfect place to celebrate Christmas with her and the family. The antiques are beautifully arranged, and the farmhouse setting, horses, front porch, and sweet cats outside all felt welcoming. The place has the warmth of a grandparents’ home from the moment you walk in. It could be a family getaway for game season and big-screen watching, or just somewhere quiet to curl up with a book. There was plenty of space for our three adults and two teens, with a bed for everyone and room for more. The house was clean, well cared for, and stocked with the supplies we needed. We also got to meet Wendy, the owner, who showed us around the barn and property behind the scenes. It was an ideal quiet weekend away, and we’ll definitely return.

Wendy even came by one evening and joined us for some ridiculously fun games. She was a wonderful hostess, and the house had all sorts of useful things for us, from pizza pans and wine glasses to personal items. The beds were clean and cozy, and antique shopping was great. Our group of five women came from Western KY, and walking into the farmhouse felt like stepping back in time to my grandma’s house. It’s a cozy place for friends or family to gather. We’ll be back to see Wendy, probably with a larger group, so we may need to book two houses next time.

The Christmas decorations and Wendy’s thoughtful touches make the farmhouse feel just like home for the holidays. We come back every year to see friends and family around South Bend and SW Michigan, and Wendy is always so accommodating. It really is our home away from home. Thanks, Wendy. See ya next year!
