Comfort Suites University Area Notre Dame - South Bend

The staff were really nice, the breakfast spread was awesome, and my room was clean. The pool area, though, seemed neglected. The pool was meant to be heated, but fog and ice covered the glass walls and the room was cold. Paint was peeling from the ceiling and walls, and an oily film covered the stagnant water. You couldn’t see the bottom, so it didn’t seem to be getting cleaned or filtered. I was disappointed to find there was no hot tub, since the online photos and listing showed it as an amenity. The hotel was probably really nice at one point, but now it looks a bit outdated and neglected.

Customer service was great, and the rooms look good. But I couldn’t find a way to fix the very short shower curtain, which hung outside the tub and let water drip onto the floor. The water barely got warm enough for me to enjoy. It’s hard to justify staying here when you have to rush through a halfway decent shower to keep the floor dry.

Call Lynda if you’re bringing a group. She’s probably the nicest hospitality employee I’ve ever dealt with. The hotel’s a bit beat up, but the staff make up for it, and they provide a nice breakfast.

I paid $89 for a weekday night, and there was plenty of availability. Breakfast in the lobby in the morning had a wide variety. The hotel is easy to get on and off I-80, close to plenty of restaurants, and the parking lot is well lit and felt safe. Everything was spotless and quiet, and the rooms were spacious. There are plenty of hotels and motels on the main drag if you’re a tired traveler looking for somewhere to sleep, but I’d highly recommend this one. It’s reasonably priced, conveniently located, spacious, and immaculate.
