We booked three nights but left after two. The pool was the one bright spot, and we were glad we brought our own towels. We picked this place for the outdoor pool during our July visit. South Haven and the beach are nearby, though you’ll need to drive. The price is lower than most nearby places, but you get what you pay for. There was no food on site that I could find, just a soda vending machine near our room. Our room was tiny, dirty, and buggy. The floor was filthy, the bathroom smelled like urine, and the ice bucket hadn’t been emptied. Live and dead bugs were visible, and I woke up to a beetle crawling across the blanket. I didn’t see roaches. The full/standard bed and its bedding seemed decades old, and it was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever tried to sleep in. The door wouldn’t lock, so my husband went to the office. Someone tried several things with the door code, but none worked, and they gave us a key instead. The TV also wouldn’t work, so he had to go back to the office to get someone to reset it. There are no phones in the rooms, and ice is handed out at the office, so get some before they close. The cancellation policy also isn’t standard for the industry. We wanted to shorten the trip but couldn’t get any money refunded. Geese had left droppings all over the sidewalks, and no one sprayed them off while we were there. I can only imagine how much got tracked into the rooms. I saw three young boys riding scooters through all the mess. We talked with another couple at the pool who had the same complaints about a small room, uncomfortable bed, and broken TV. They chose the place for the pool too, but said they wouldn’t return. Neither will we. See photos.

Our room in the beach house was very clean and full of windows, and the bunk beds were brand new. The bed was a little soft, but it worked out perfectly for us, our teenage daughter, and our dog. The motel is super cute, the pond and waterfall behind it are beautiful, and the pool and grounds looked amazing and very clean. It’s clear the owners take pride in the property. Wish we’d had longer to explore South Haven and enjoy the pool. We’ll be back for sure.

The rooms were cute, inexpensive, comfortable, and a good size, and there’s a really cool forest trail on the property. The location and price matter most to me, so I’d stay again, but housekeeping is almost nonexistent if that’s important to you. It could be a great hotel with better staffing. You can’t use the “make up my room” sign. You have to ask at the front desk, which wasn’t clear when we checked in. On our first request they only made the bed, leaving the trash and not replacing towels or soap and shampoo. The second time they did nothing except toss a plastic bag of clean towels on the unmade bed, and didn’t remove the dirty ones. With all the sand that comes in from the beach, I expected daily housekeeping and really needed it. A couple of other changes would help too. There should be a nightstand and lamp on both sides of the bed. The shower has travel-sized soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion tubes instead of dispensers, and they don’t replace the products during your stay.

There were lots of people outside grilling, relaxing by the pool, playing cornhole, and enjoying themselves. The hotel felt family-friendly and had great vibes. We found it affordable, well located, full of outdoor activities, and very dog-friendly, with a nice Midwest vintage feel. Other area hotels and Airbnbs were extra expensive or not pet-friendly during LDW, and we didn’t want to spend $1,000+ for three nights. The rooms are a bit outdated, but clean and well-kept, especially the bathroom. Some reviews made us nervous, so we brought our own bedding, but the hotel bedding was clean and fresh too. The room wasn’t “super small” at all. It was the right size for the three of us, one suitcase, a duffle bag, and two totes. The shower plumbing was a little clogged, so the water drained very slowly. The mattress was softer than we like, though we slept well.

The grounds are beautiful and the place was very peaceful and quiet. The rooms are small, but they use the space well. It could use a little TLC. Dogs are allowed for a fee.
