Country Inn & Suites By Radisson Ithaca Ny

I’ve stayed twice and am about to check in for the third time. The beds are comfortable, it’s clean, and the front desk clerks are friendly and helpful. Prices are very affordable, and include a hot and cold breakfast. First time, our son was with us and we got a suite. The second and third times, we had a king room. I don’t get why this hotel has a 3.8. It’s exactly what it should be, which would be a 4, but it exceeded my expectations, so I give it a 5. The location is convenient, though I’d rate it a 4 because it’s a little outside Ithaca center and not in walkable downtown Ithaca. That’s also why the prices are so affordable.

The place looked just barely okay at first, but a closer look showed it was dirty and not even moderately cared for. The pool was out of order, and it didn’t look like repairs were coming anytime soon. The restroom outside the pool had a urinal that was out of order and looked like it had been that way a while. Our room had ripped curtains and significant water damage on the ceiling. A couple of other rooms I could see from outside had ripped curtains too. The smoke detector was so yellow it must have been the original. It seems privately owned. I don’t think corporate would let this place go. If you have other choices, take one. I’d have to be pretty desperate to stay again.

The physical place is okay, but the service was hostile and irrational. Watch out if you’re thin-skinned. I was threatened over a banana, which has never happened to me before. I got in late and went down for coffee a little after ten. Someone was eating in the breakfast room and all the food was still out, so I went in for a banana and a cup of juice. That was all I wanted. A woman came in and barked that breakfast was over and closed. I hadn’t known. I tried to explain I wasn’t going to make waffles or cause trouble, since I understand being considerate. She kept saying breakfast was over, I couldn’t have that, and had to leave. I was stunned and looked from her to the man still eating. Then she said she’d call the police if I didn’t leave. I couldn’t believe it. She went off to call them, of course not, and I left with the banana. In the foyer, the manager C.J blamed me and said I should know breakfast was over. He insisted there was a sign on the door, but there wasn’t. Then he said there was one inside. I asked where and he didn’t know, so he switched to saying it was on the website. I wasn’t getting internet until the next day, though I can’t say whose fault that was. The rudeness was off the scale. It felt like staff were treating customers as trash who were trying to get away with something. It never got cleared up, and they seemed to think that kind of treatment was okay.

A delicious, nutritious breakfast with a fantastic selection, good prices, friendly and hospitable employees, plus fast check-in and checkout. The new facility has clean, neat rooms and feels safe and quiet. It’s conveniently located near Ithaca College. This place couldn’t have been better. Highly recommended!
