Inn At South Lake Tahoe

We spent four days here and had a pleasant stay. The hotel is within walking distance of Heavenly center, which was handy, and breakfast was the highlight. There was plenty for the whole family, with a decent range of options. It’s a useful perk if you’re watching your budget or want to eat well in the morning and splurge on dinner later. Getting in and out can be frustrating, though, because the property sits at an awkward T-intersection.

We only stayed here because we’re IHG members and needed a room, but we wouldn’t book it again knowing what it was like. The room was dated, the toilet flushed slowly, and the heater blows directly toward the bed from very close by. We all got sick after our stay, and I feel especially bad for my little one. We’ve stayed at other hotels over the years without getting sick, but this was the worst time. The staff were fine. Breakfast was the worst we’ve had at a Holiday Inn hotel.

The rooms were roomy enough for us, with two king beds in each of the two rooms we booked, and the Dove hand soap, body wash, and lotion were a nice touch. It’s also centrally located, close to the Heavenly lift and nearby attractions. There were several drawbacks. We couldn’t get into the rooms before 4 PM, even when we arrived only 15 to 30 minutes early, and had to come back later. The rooms felt old, the carpets were dirty and torn in places, and having the closet inside the bathroom wasn’t practical. Breakfast had few choices and fell short of expectations. For the price, it didn’t feel like good value. This was my first stay at an IHG property, and the experience has made me hesitant to choose another IHG hotel. I wouldn’t recommend this one.

We had paid in full for two nights over Christmas weekend, and I called on the day of arrival to say we’d be late because snow had closed the road. I asked James, the night manager, to keep the room ready, but he didn’t respond properly. When we finally arrived around 4 a.m., Manager Sky told us there were no rooms. She blamed James, then started panicking and yelling at me to leave. My 82-year-old grandma and my 53-year-old mother were exhausted and freezing, with it minus 4 degrees outside. We had nowhere to go, and most places were booked for Christmas. After searching for two hours, we found an expensive room for one night. We had to cancel our gondola reservation and cut our vacation short. The way we were treated was horrible and unprofessional. I filed an official complaint on the IHG website so other people don’t go through the same situation.
