The room itself had an unusual, thoughtfully designed layout, which I liked. But cleanliness fell short: there was dust on several surfaces, both couches looked like they needed vacuuming, and an earring from a previous guest was beside the bed. We had to ask to move rooms. The room change then caused more hassle. The desk agent reassigned us but apparently didn’t update the system, so our key stopped working the next morning and we were told we weren’t checked in. We had to switch rooms again, and an extra card charge turned out to be a temporary hold. It got sorted eventually, but the process was confusing and inconvenient. The bistro was closed the whole time, so breakfast wasn’t an option. For what we paid during a high-demand period, I expected more from a Marriott. I probably wouldn’t return, since we could have stayed somewhere much nicer for that price.
After a draining day of canceled flights and airport chaos, Alice completely turned our evening around. She was warm, easy to talk to, and knew the area well. She shared some good local suggestions for the next day, since our flight wasn’t leaving until evening. And her espresso martini was the best I’ve ever had. Alice was a real bright spot in our trip, thank you!
The bed was comfortable, the location worked well, and the price was on the lower side. The staff at the coffee bar were kind when I had to ask them for ice, since every ice machine was broken. The rooms were another story. My first desk had suspicious stains, though housekeeping cleaned them right away. I moved anyway, and the next room had stained sheets, a dirty bathroom counter, and hair in the shower. It was also noisy at night with people coming in late. The front desk was consistently grumpy and dismissive, and the credit they gave me after I complained about the repeated cleanliness problems was laughably small. Check your room before settling in, and don’t expect Marriott-level hospitality if something goes wrong.
Plenty of parking, coffee in the room, and everything was clean and convenient. Check-in took about 30 seconds, though I was tired and slow. The attendant was lovely and gave me all the coffee I could want.
The room seemed fine at first, but the furniture had scratches and dents all over it, well below what I expect from Marriott. Then I found a smear of blood on the bath mat. I tossed it under the sink, showered, and stepped out onto a bathroom floor that was completely flooded. I’d booked through the Bon Voyage app for a business trip to Portland, something I do regularly. When I arrived, the bistro was dark. I was told it was closed then but would open for breakfast in the morning. I went elsewhere for dinner, and later discovered that none of the building’s ice machines worked when I tried to fill my Yeti. By Marriott standards, this place is an absolute dump. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying or doesn’t travel enough to know the difference.
