Cottonwood Inn and Conference Center

Check your room thoroughly before staying. They kept my deposit over ashes on the windowsill, claiming they were left by me even though I don't smoke. It was something the previous guests had done, and it seems the maids cut corners and don't mind leaving customers to pay for it.

We've often broken up our trips with an overnight stop, and I thought this was a decent enough place for that. We won't be back. The first time, on July 11, 2025, the toilet wouldn't flush and the TV didn't work. I appreciated the polite, appropriate young man working that night. On July 17, the middle-aged woman with orange hair made check-in a miserable ordeal. She kept rambling at 11:30 at night. My husband came in to get our room number so he could park the car and get the dogs, but she refused to tell us or write it down, saying a serial killer might hear it and kill us. He left to look after the dogs. She also told another man waiting to stand "over there" while I checked in, and I told him he could stay where he was. The previous Thursday, a man had taken my car information without a license plate number and said it was fine. This time the woman insisted she couldn't proceed without the plate number, even though my husband had left with the car and dogs. I had to take my elderly dad and our things to sit and wait for him to return. I won't go through all her other rambling, but she shouldn't be working with the public. When she finally gave me the keys and room number, I announced the number to the lobby to make it easier for the serial killers. I kept announcing it while she argued, so I wouldn't have to listen to whatever foolish thing she'd say next. Spoiler, I predict she's the serial killer. Someone should pay her rent so nobody else has to deal with her. I finally told her I didn't want to hear anything else and just wanted her to finish. My husband came in with the dogs and asked what was going on. I would have liked to know too! On top of all that, the rooms weren't much good.

We stayed at the Cottonwood Inn, Sioux City, NE while traveling to Montana, and the friendly, helpful staff made us feel right at home. The hotel had all the amenities we could ask for, and the hot breakfast was a real bonus before our 5:30 a.m. start. I was very impressed and would highly recommend it for a comfortable, welcoming stay.

That hot water in the room stayed hot forever, which was a plus. The room itself was super basic, though, and my hair dryer didn't work. Breakfast was a really small spread, and I couldn't find much I wanted. Not bad, but not great either.
