Baymont Inn & Suites Spearfish

The room was grimy and badly dated. I have pictures, including of the disgusting bathroom tile and spots where the drywall didn’t reach the floor or ceiling. Breakfast was just waffles or a muffin, plus some squishy bananas on display. We were shocked by the whole stay and told each other this was both our first and last visit. We’d booked through the Wyndham app, but the nearly empty lot, with only three cars, made us wonder if the place was even open. Check-in didn’t improve things: the attendant didn’t greet us or speak except to ask for my card, then held out her hand. There was nobody else in the lobby. I should’ve read the reviews first. We would never stay again, even for free.

Saw a mattress listed for $50 on FB Marketplace, but one of the young women working there first told me it was $89. My wife sent me the add, and I showed it to the unhelpful girl. Only then did she take it back and agree that $50 was fine. When I went to load it, I saw bugs. They refunded the cash, but only the buggy deal money. I asked if I could take it for free for my dog kennel just to see what they’d say, and they refused, saying it would be $50. Baymont, more like Bugmont.

The breakfast was okay, and the room didn’t smell bad, but what we paid felt way too high. The pool and hot tub are permanently closed, and there was no Wi-Fi, TV, coffee maker, or hair dryer in the room. The hair dryer outlet looked like it had started a fire. The shower head needs replacing, the fridge had mold, and the freezer was packed with frost. The lampshade had what looked like blood splatter inside it, and the doors kept slamming. The bathroom needs major updating. This should be closer to $99.00.

We only stayed because just about every other hotel in town was full. The room wasn’t awful, but it didn’t feel like a quality place, especially for what we paid. Around 100 bucks would’ve seemed fair, but our rate was a lot higher. The room was dated and had no fridge or microwave. It was stuffy when we arrived because the AC hadn’t been running, and it took ages to cool things down. There were hardly any outlets, so finding one near the bed to charge a phone was tough. Light from the hallway came right under the door.
