SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western Southern Pines Pinehurst

I travel often, but upscale hotels aren’t really what I look for. This place gives you a lot for the price. It’s clean and quiet, the landscaping is nice, and the staff are pleasant and accommodating. My room was clean, as it should be, and everything worked. If you want a reasonably priced midrange hotel and have realistic expectations, you’ll probably like it as much as I do.

Booking through Hotels.com might make this worth the price if you just need somewhere to sleep. The beds seemed clean, but the walls and bathroom didn’t. I didn’t take pictures, but there were black and brown marks all over the place, like kids had touched everything with dirty hands. I was in room 117.

This place is old and needs updating. The rooms weren’t clean, and the worn vinyl floors didn’t look clean either. I wouldn’t walk barefoot. I didn’t see bugs, but had the feeling they might be around. Only the woman at the desk when we checked in at 9 pm seemed pleasant; the other staff weren’t very friendly. The free breakfast was very limited. They had a waffle iron, but no bagels, English muffins, fruit, or eggs, not even hard-boiled ones. It seemed to be the only place in the area, so I stayed, but I definitely won’t return.

I’ve never seen such unprofessional behavior. My daughter spoke up for me after the front desk woman was rude the first time, which I let go. Then she cut me off and got mouthy again. I asked for her manager’s number, but it seemed like she’d been rude before and gotten away with it. I’d never go back.
