We lingered over breakfast chatting with Mary and Dave, after enjoying fresh blueberry pancakes and two kinds of coffee they thoughtfully made without us even asking. I like stronger coffee than my husband does, so that was especially nice. We were there for one night while seeing a play in nearby Waterbury, and the place was so pleasant and comfortable that I slept really well. Snow was in the forecast, and Mary called the day before to offer an early arrival so we'd be safe. It meant a lot that she thought of us. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Dave makes pancakes with real maple syrup tapped from the six huge sugar maples on the property, and the place has a real homey feel. I stayed for two days in the summer of 2012 before a conference. My room stayed cool, quiet, and comfortable. Mary and Dave have done a wonderful job maintaining, updating, and decorating this ancient house, while staying true to its original 18th-century style.

Dave's pancakes with syrup from his own trees were a real breakfast treat. My husband and I spent one night at Capt. Josiah Cowles Place, and it was such a lovely experience. The house is old but exceptionally well cared for, very clean, and comfortable. Dave and Mary were excellent hosts. Thanks to them both, A+.

The meal and conversation were both great, and they even served maple syrup from a tree in the backyard. We had friends visiting from out of state, and the couple who run the place let us join them for breakfast. I'd highly recommend this b&b to anyone staying around Southington.

We feel lucky that Mary and Dave are our friends, and spending time with them is the best part of being here. The atmosphere, food, and comfort are all lovely too. My husband Bill and I think you should give the place a try. You'll really enjoy your stay.
