The ants were the biggest problem during my July stay at the Residence Inn Reno Sparks. My son spotted them in our first reserved room as we were bringing in our luggage. We moved to a second room, but it had ants too and was uncomfortably warm at 77°F. I reported the infestation through the hotel chat app and asked to change rooms. After a long wait, staff said there were no other rooms. I checked the hotel website and saw several that could still be booked. When I pointed that out and asked for a supervisor, they didn’t give me a name. They abruptly offered a studio instead, which made it seem like rooms had been available after all. It felt deceptive and dismissive. I accepted 5,000 Marriott points after some back-and-forth and took the room because my exhausted kids needed to settle in. That room had ants too, which I cleaned up myself. We kept the second room for the kids because the infestation in the first was unacceptable. The air conditioning also made the stay uncomfortable. At other Marriott properties, setting the thermostat to 70°F cools the room in 15-20 minutes. Here it stayed at 77°F even when set to 70°F. Staff told me the AC only runs when it detects motion, so someone would have to be there and constantly moving to cool the room. That’s impractical, especially with tired, cranky kids. The check-in experience had already felt unwelcoming. The front desk staff were indifferent, didn’t acknowledge my Titanium Elite status, and didn’t offer the customary welcome gift. It made me feel undervalued as a loyal Marriott guest. Between the ants, the room-availability story, the unhelpful staff, and the AC issue, the stay was unbearable. I attached photos and a video of the ants and thermostat problems to show how serious this was, especially the infestation the hotel needs to address urgently. I expected far better from a Residence Inn. I won’t return and strongly advise others to consider other places to stay in the Reno Sparks area. The rooms feel like home, with plenty of space and accommodations, and they’re always clean. The staff are super friendly, and being pet friendly is a huge plus. I haven’t stayed in downtown Reno since my first visit here almost six years ago. The location was already good, and all the new development nearby has made it even better. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re there for something outside downtown. There’s a casino across the street if you’re into gambling.

We had a marina bay view room, and waking up to the marina bay, mountains, and planes taking off and landing was awesome. The rooms and location are great. There’s a casino across the street if you like gambling, plus factory outlets for all the major brands. Scheels is in the area too.

I’m a Marriott fan, and this location was spot on in most ways. The thing that keeps bothering me is that newer locations only have walk-in showers and no tubs. I can usually live with that, but this one has neither a jacuzzi nor a whirlpool. I have chronic back and leg pain, and an in-room tub or poolside whirlpool is what I need for a soak every night. Showers just don’t give me the experience I need, so unfortunately I won’t be back. If any Marriott execs are listening, I’d suggest looking at the data and offering at least some rooms at each location with a regular tub or an ensuite jacuzzi. I think you’d see a significant increase in sales.

This Residence lacks big bowls. Chelsea’s customer service sucks. Chelsea needs to learn how to make people who book with them happy. I hate hearing, “Unfortunately, we can’t do this or that.” Make your customers happy. I’ll definitely go to the Hampton’s next door. We stayed there our last night, and they did unfortunately me. Residence Inn customer service sucks. Go next door.
