Best Western Black Hills Lodge

This one felt overpriced, and the clerks were rushed and impatient, with no help for us tourists. The furniture in the room did look like BW furniture, but the rest of the hotel is old. There’s no elevator, the carpet on the stairs is dirty and frayed, and the windows at the top are dirty too. The hallways are so dim it’s hard to find your room. Another disappointing Best Western. Doesn’t BW have state supervisors checking their hotels? Spearfish has plenty of good options. Try the I-90 exit with places like Fairfield Marriott, where you’ll get your money’s worth.

The employees were incredibly helpful and friendly. When my son left his toothbrush charger behind, the manager kindly shipped it home to us. Thanks for having honest employees who were willing to help us out. That customer service is why I gave five stars. The hotel was in pretty good shape for its age. Our room was above the front desk, so we had to carry all our luggage up the stairs to the second floor. The rooms were somewhat dated but well cared for, and there was plenty of room for our family of five. Breakfast was decent, especially the bacon, eggs, and waffles. We stayed one night and paid nearly $300, which felt steep for a peak summer trip. I think the room was worth about half that.

At a super reasonable price, we got a nice, very clean room and a really good free breakfast with lots of choices.

The rooms are older, but the hotel is clean and the staff are amazing. There’s a cheap bar attached, too. My favorite place to stay when I travel for work.
