Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Spearfish

Bad weather left us stranded, but Bobbi Jo found us a room early in the day even though we didn't have a reservation. She was so sweet and helpful that I'd come back just to see her. We had a wonderful stay, and breakfast had better variety and quality than most.

We've come back several times because the rooms are clean and well kept, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast is good, especially the biscuits and gravy.

As a contractor, I spent a week here among a mix of tourists and other contractors before moving closer to Rapid City. Spearfish is a bit removed from the tourist sights, which suited me since I didn't want to be in the thick of Sturgis or Rapid City. The drive along I-90 is calm and beautiful for people visiting Rushmore and the Badlands, without the overcrowding and potential crime worries. The hotel is right off I-90, with a Yes Way gas station next door for food and liquor, and a Dollar Tree within easy walking distance for basics. Walmart is also walkable. I was initially surprised to be put in a wheelchair-accessible room, but then realized all the first-floor rooms were accessible, which made me comfortable. The TV welcome screen even showed my name. It may seem like a small thing, but those touches feel nice when I'm on the road five months of the year. The location worked well for getting around Spearfish, Whitewood, Deadwood, Lead, and Cheyenne Crossing. And I loved being so close to Culver’s food joint!

Donna was an exceptional breakfast attendant during our stay, and the hot breakfast had bacon and eggs for my husband, plus more. All the staff were very nice, the rooms were clean and spacious, and we never heard a thing from the elevator even though our room was next to it. We'd happily stay again.
