Spindrift Motel

The manager was the one bright spot. She was kind and helpful once she got involved, and we eventually got a resolution. It’s unfortunate, because this was supposed to be a relaxing trip and the problems kept getting in the way. At about 6pm we returned to change and found ourselves locked in the room. We called the front desk. The call was recorded, thankfully, and Harris, the employee, sounded completely unconcerned. No sympathy, urgency, or apology. He couldn’t fix the door and told us to leave it open while we were in the room. We had a 12-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a 7-month-old with us. There was no offer to move us to another room, and we were told there was nothing they could do, no manager to call, and that the manager was out of state and unreachable. There was also an outlet with exposed wires. We asked what would happen if our toddler got hurt, and they said maintenance wasn’t there and would come in the morning, so we should call when we wanted to leave. In the morning it took over 15 minutes for someone to come unlock the door. The service person then climbed through the window to get out, for some reason. The manager later contacted my husband after the desk took his name and number. He explained everything, and we finally got help. The TV didn’t work at all. The cables were a tangled mess attached under the table, and other guests were complaining about their TVs too. The bathroom handle was loose and wouldn’t lock, and the tub was stained as if someone had dyed their hair black in it. The shower head was too low for my tall husband, who didn’t bother rinsing off. The room also had lots of other issues. My husband said the front desk staff seemed to know nothing about the place. There was no free parking, and our balcony looked over a trailer park. Terrible room, terrible employees, unsafe conditions, and unacceptable suggestions. I’d never book here unless I wanted my vacation ruined.

I came with my kids and didn’t feel safe. There’s a no-smoking policy, but I could smell strange smoke coming from rooms. In the first room, the water pressure was poor and the smoke detector was off the wall. I’m an electrician, and saw exposed wires that didn’t look safe. They moved us to a second room with no water pressure and a smoke detector that didn’t work. I might not have checked that detector if I hadn’t noticed the exposed one in the first room. The third room had a toilet that wouldn’t flush and another detector that still didn’t work, though they were able to hook that one up.

We came down for my friend’s birthday, but the room was awful. There were stains on the bed, a big hole in the air conditioner leading outside, cracks in the walls, and no shower head. When we told a worker about the bed stains, he barged into our room without knocking. We didn’t have towels, so we went to the office and were told we couldn’t have more than one, even though there were four of us. As we were leaving, the power went out. Luckily we were heading home right after. I was really disappointed. Be better!

The location was great, and thank goodness there were no bugs in our room. That was the only good part. We booked it in a hurry for 4th of July weekend, and I’m glad we only had to sleep there. The sheets were dirty, so I was glad I brought my own. There was a broken chair, the TV didn’t work, and there weren’t even lamps on the nightstands. The water pressure was horrible, and the front door lock felt sketchy. We stayed two nights and never got fresh towels or anything. Parking wasn’t free, and I argued with the guy at the front desk about it. It took me literally two and a half hours to find parking. I know they got tired of me complaining at the desk. I don’t care, this nasty motel was honestly below a one-star rating. What a waste of money. I won’t be back.
