The manager, Robert, really stood out. He was welcoming, attentive, and accommodating, and it’s clear he cares about the guests and the property. That made the stay feel more comfortable. I stayed at MainStay Suites on Indiana Ave in Spokane Valley for an extended trip. The rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, with the essentials, including studio-style space, a full kitchen, and a proper fridge. There’s no breakfast, pool, or hot tub, but the guest laundry and little shop with snacks and basics were handy. For a quiet, clean place with a kitchen and good service, it does what it promises. It isn’t a luxury hotel, but it worked well for me.

The manager said I’d get a refund, but nearly a week has passed and nothing has come through. The TV didn’t work, and the sink was clogged and filled with water. Worst of all, a piece of drywall patch fell on my head while I was showering. I know it’s only a two-star place, but this was ridiculous.

We spent four nights at the Mainstay and would stay again for the value. The assistant manager Roberto was helpful and let us check out an hour late, which gave us time to pack and shower without rushing. Erin, who checked us in that evening, was friendly too. The location worked well, with shopping, restaurants, gas, and a freeway nearby. Our room had a full-size fridge, electric stove, microwave, coffee maker, table and chairs, luggage rack, and an open closet with hangers, an ironing board, and iron. The beds were clean and comfortable, the bathroom towels were plentiful and fluffy, and the water pressure was great. The room felt secure, and the air conditioner kept it cool when we arrived in July. There are snacks and microwave dinners for sale, plus a comfortable downstairs lounge that always has coffee. Thank you, it was a good stay.

The place was clean and comfortable, and the location suited our travel plans. I liked having free tea and coffee in the foyer. Some furniture and the toilet were breaking, and the woman at reception on Saturday evening was so hard to approach. My Mum tried being polite, complimenting her, and asking questions, but barely got a response. It felt as though our arrival was a nuisance. The Sunday morning receptionist, a gentleman I think was named Roberto, made up for that with his friendly, helpful manner. Thanks for sending us off on a pleasant note. I hope you get to pursue both of your career interests 😊

The rooms I’ve seen aren’t bad for size, but the condition and the staff are another matter. On my first night, I tried to open the blinds and the metal cover came down on my head, cutting me. Nobody dealt with it. The staff are incompetent. Ask for something and they’ll mess something up or make you feel stupid for asking. Choice Hotels lists an exercise room, but if it’s there at all, it’s been unusable for a long time. The place feels much more like a Motel 6 than most Choice properties. Update: after I contacted Choice hotels directly, they fixed the issues in my room and moved me to another one five hours later. But the new room has a garbage disposal that doesn’t work and leaks through rust holes. The blind problem was the same as the one in my original room, even though they had fixed mine. CHOICE HOTELS now says to take any further concerns to property management, which is the problem. After 25 years, I think I’m done seeking out their brand.
