DoubleTree by Hilton Spokane City Center

My daughter left her Kindle at the DoubleTree (Hilton) City Center in Spokane. We spoke with Alex Chapman, the housekeeping manager, and he searched the whole hotel until he found it. He offered to ship it and made sure it got back to us safely. He was kind and went well out of his way to help. It was refreshing to be treated that way, and I'd recommend the Spokane DoubleTree. I'm a longtime Diamond member. With daylight saving time moving the clocks forward an hour, they wouldn't give us the lost hour as late checkout. We'd been there three days, and the room hadn't been serviced before 1 p.m.; today, suddenly every room was being cleaned at 11. Brand loyalty doesn't get you anything. Disregard that, they took care of us.

I've stayed here several times and it's always been a great experience. The staff are friendly, and the rooms are attractive and quiet. The coffee shop has good food and a caring crew. It's one of my favorite Hilton properties, right by the beautiful Spokane River and at downtown's edge, with lots of movie theaters and restaurants to choose from.

The room was a nice space and the service was good, so the stay was pretty good overall. The AC and heat kept shutting off, presumably on a timer, and I woke up sweating at 3 a.m. We booked a room listed online for three people, but there wasn't a place for our child when we arrived. At midnight we went down to ask for a rollaway, which cost an extra $25 a night. We were willing to pay despite the listing, and they ended up waiving the charge because delivery was delayed by a security issue in the building. It was probably a one-off, but if you're traveling with a third person in the corner room upgrade, check on the rollaway before the middle of the night.
