Hampton Inn & Suites Springfield, MO

The rooms were very clean and had the basics stocked, including toiletries and coffee. When we walked in, the TV was on with a screensaver saying "Welcome Steve." The manager quickly sorted out a room mix-up that wasn't Hampton Inn's fault and found the best accommodations available. Staff were helpful and friendly. The mattress felt fine when I sat on it, but lying down, it was so firm that it hurt my back and made it hard to sleep. I mentioned it to the manager the next morning, while also saying it just wasn't my bed, since your own bed always feels better.

Breakfast was decent and typical, with omelettes, different sausages that change daily, potatoes, waffles, cereal, bagels, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, coffee, and juice. The hotel is close to the interstates and a short drive from most Springfield sights. There's also a pool and a small fitness room. Check-in was easy through the Hilton app, which also offers digital room keys, and the TVs have Hilton-branded Google TV. Our room had an older, very springy bed that wasn't comfortable, and the room was loud. We needed the heater on because it got cold at night, and it sounded like a huge motor cycling on and off. Hallway noise carried into the rooms too. One night an infant screamed down the hall, and between that and the heater, or freezing, we barely slept. We've had better stays.

I come here often when I want some time to myself, and Patrick at the front desk is my favorite employee by far. He's the nicest, always greets me when I arrive, and checks if I need anything. After I've checked in, he even texts to see that things are going well and whether I need something.

The staff are amazing and personable, and the place is usually not too crowded. I've stayed here several times for work and business. The bed was a three out of ten, and the most recent remodel felt poorly done with really cheap, builder-grade materials. And the coffee, don't get me started. What should you expect from hotel coffee, really? Maybe not something that tastes like a burnt rat. I'd give it four out of five because it was clean and the staff were great. The rest needs work.
