Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Springfield - I-44 by IHG

Parking for a semi is great, the employees are friendly, and the restaurant had good food with very friendly staff. Those were the bright spots in an otherwise awful stay. The building is a little dated, though it has had plenty of improvements in recent years and was in much better shape than during my last visit, when the remodel caused construction problems. The room was fairly clean. The restaurant looked nice, and the service there was great. The room was the worst part. The air conditioner sounded like a freight train, so loud I had to turn the TV way up. The TV menu said device casting was available, but it wasn’t connected to the internet. I also found a wasp as soon as I arrived. I figured the odd bug could happen, but after dinner I found another, then another flying over the bed, and one by my phone when I reached for it to set my alarm. I killed them, but after several more showed up, I was completely distressed. I called the desk. They offered to move me, but by then I needed sleep and didn’t have time to pack everything. I’ve stayed here before and dealt with a broken TV, a bathtub with paint chips and clumps of dirt that looked untouched, and breakfast that I’d paid extra for but was still charged for because it wasn’t listed on my room. I used to stay here regularly, but past problems made me stop. I only came back because my usual hotel had no room. The booking service said no deposit was due, but the hotel required one, and it can take a week to get the money back. That was annoying. I’ve given this place multiple chances and left multiple reviews, but there seems to be a new issue each time. The staff and restaurant are great, but the facilities and operations are garbage. I’d rather stay anywhere else. I used to stick with IHG hotels and had Platinum rewards status, but this one hotel has put me off the brand entirely.

The staff are great and quick to help, but the amenities and breakfast setup are worse than at Comfort Inns I’ve stayed in. Breakfast is free there and better stocked; here they charge anyone over 11 to eat. There are no hair dryers in the rooms, and they can’t provide cots for extra guests. Don’t expect the price to match the experience. I’d pick a cheaper place with fewer visual touches and more amenities.

The room was just okay, and there was a strange smell. Staff were only so-so friendly, and the lounge was closed. A little dog barked all night, and crossing the street to get to a restaurant was difficult. We checked out at 4:20 a.m. and were charged for breakfast we didn’t get. They didn’t care when we raised it. Not the best stay, and I won’t return.

I had to change rooms because there was poop splattered in the toilet. Then I noticed the corridors were dirty too. The elevator has automatic deodorizer sprays that are way overdone and made my allergies flare up. I hardly ever leave reviews, good or bad, but I won’t be back.
