Best Western Historic Bayfront

The trolley stops right outside, and we were only minutes from the restaurants, shops, and anything else we wanted to see around town. Our room was in a great spot, too. From the moment we checked in, the receptionist was lovely and answered all our questions. We had a wonderful little vacation at Best Western Historic Bayfront in St Augustine, Florida. Everything felt perfect, and I’m already looking forward to coming back. I know where we’ll stay next time.

We’ll definitely return. Everyone on staff was warm and helpful, especially Javon, who was so sweet. The soda machine wouldn’t accept our cards, and about ten minutes later he surprised me with the soda I wanted. The hotel is right in the middle of historic St Augustine, so restaurants, bars, shops, and trolley tours are all an easy walk. The trolley also picks up and drops off right outside.

We loved seeing the Night of Lights illuminate the street and several blocks beyond. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and they had excellent coffee plus a quick snack bag to take with us when we left. It’s a comfortable, spacious place, well situated for walking along the bayfront and enjoying the activities there. A fantastic place to stay in St. Augustine.

The location was amazing, but the rest of the stay had plenty of problems. At check-in, the woman at the desk said, “all I have is a second floor, is that okay?” in a rude way and didn’t make eye contact. We hadn’t asked for a particular room or amenities. The parking didn’t seem guaranteed, and the setup made us worry we wouldn’t find a space if we drove out and came back. It cost $25 per day. Narrow staircases also cut off access to some rooms. The bed was comfortable, but it sat so high you had to hoist yourself into it, which could be difficult if you have mobility issues. The shower door forced me to stand inside while getting the water to the right temperature, and we could hear our neighbors having sex through the air conditioning. When my phone fell under the bedside table, it came back filthy. There were scuff marks all over the floor, and I didn’t see a mop, broom, or Swiffer on the maid cart, so I’m left wondering whether the floors get cleaned. I’m really looking forward to hotel management looking into this, as they stated in their reply. How will they make this right? Come for the location, not the service or any peace and quiet.
