Best Western Historical Inn

Check-in was quick, and the staff were very friendly. We left our bags in the room and went to dinner, then noticed when we got back that it hadn’t been cleaned properly. There was dust on the glass tables, crumbs on the kitchenette floor near the trash can, and human hair stuck to the shower walls. The sliding shower door handle was hanging loose, which I reported at checkout. The room’s cleanliness was very disappointing.

By sunrise I was ready to escape Room 114. The mattresses felt like retired pizza boxes, and my shoulders and hips protested all night. Rest was pretty much a fantasy. The room had an instant musty, long-closed basement smell. There was a bottle cap on the floor by the trash bin, black crusty buildup in the shower grout, and black flakes kept showing up on the bed linens after I brushed them away. I found short black hairs on the counters, bed, and bathroom floor, plus a toenail sitting on the table between the beds. The floor looked scuffed and grimy too. Room 114 felt like a horror comedy set piece posing as a getaway.

I couldn’t make the trip after accidentally booking through Amex, which uses a third party. I wasn’t expecting to get my money back, but the manager worked hard to sort out my mistake and managed to arrange a refund. That was excellent customer service. I’ll book here next time I’m in St. Augustine. Thank you.

Virginia and Lloyd made our trip. Virginia was so sweet and helpful, and she and Lloyd even rode downtown with My GF and me to give us a little history tour for free while they dropped us off. They deserve so much love. We usually stay at Bayfront, but it was $300+ more and had No Hot Tub!!! I’m a Best Western Member, St. Augustine is our favorite place, and it’s where we plan on getting married. Thank you so much!
