Best Western Plus St. Augustine I-95

At 5 am I woke up with several bed bugs biting me. I had my 8 month old baby girl with me, which made it even more concerning. I took pictures and trapped one in a cup to bring to the front desk. We were moved to another room in the middle of the night. I asked Daniel at the front desk how to proceed with a refund and was told they could refund only 1 day out of 5. When I questioned that, he said, “if you knew there were bed bugs, why would you continue to stay here the remaining nights”? I explained that finding a hotel at 5 am on Memorial Day isn’t easy. He was extremely smart with me and made a hard situation worse. I’m not posting this to blast one man who was very unprofessional. Based on other reviews, this isn’t a first with this guy. I wanted to share what happened so people know what they might be dealing with here. Hope this helps someone.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient, and the location worked well for visiting family. It’s between restaurants and the outlet mall, with easy highway access. But the first floor room was awful. We were traveling with our toddler and three month old, and I hesitated to stay the night. We had no other options, so made it work, then checked out a day early. The room felt damp throughout. Rust had formed on the iron in the lamps, and the carpet felt wet enough that we didn’t want to take our shoes off. We found a few bugs and searched for bed bugs, luckily without finding any. That search showed how dirty the room was: peeling molding paint, matted hair in corners, foreign hairs in the towels, and dirty bathroom floors. Someone smoked pot right outside our room for a few hours in the middle of the night, and the smell got into the room. The staff were great, but we likely won’t be back.

It took three trips to the front desk before we got a room. We couldn’t open the first door, then the next room had the wrong bed setup, so we ended up in a third. The TV came with two remotes, and I never figured out how to watch it. I wasn’t going back to ask, and there was something about a password? Decent hotel.

Room 417 was horrid, and way too gross for what they charge. It smelled bad, had stains everywhere, and the easy-to-wipe surfaces hadn’t even been touched. The TV wouldn’t turn off unless I unplugged it. Five minutes after walking in, I went out to buy my own cleaning supplies just so I could think about lying down. I’m attaching photos, maybe that’ll get their attention. Staff wanted nothing to do with it at the time. This place feels like they just don’t care. I could’ve paid half as much at a super8 and gotten a room in better condition. I’m not one to leave reviews, but this was beyond GROSS.
