Southern Wind Inn Bed & Breakfast

I booked through the official website, not a third party, and received confirmation. But when I arrived, I spent four hours trying to get into the property without success. After looking into the owner, I was told ownership was changing and they weren’t responsible for a refund or replacement accommodation because I’d booked on the old owner’s website. What a nightmare. I had to find somewhere else at the last minute.

We spent our honeymoon here, returned for our anniversary, and will be back again. AJ and Ashley were warm and welcoming, and our Veranda Room was charming, with a door opening onto the front veranda. It was fun to think about how this house, built in 1900, has changed over 125 years. The bathroom, for example, was probably added to the original veranda. The room was comfortable and clean, with high quality linens and plenty of toiletries. We visited in the traditionally slow season, while some renovations and upgrades were underway, and they added to the character and fun of the stay. Parking is tight, so if you have a vehicle bigger than a mid-sized sedan, ask for a pass to the lot across the street. We left our car parked there because we could walk everywhere we wanted to go.

The location made it easy to walk to all the downtown spots, and being able to leave our car parked there for the day after checkout was a huge help. The owner also stayed late to let us check in a bit late, then was accommodating again when we needed a slightly later checkout. The room was charming and laid out well, with good WiFi and plenty of complimentary amenities. The only small issue was that the walls are a little thin, so street noise comes through. Otherwise, no complaints. I highly recommend the place.

I was worried after reading the reviews once I’d booked, and still skeptical when I arrived, but the stay turned out great. The man running the place was awesome, the rooms were clean, and breakfast was amazing. Parking is the only complaint. It’s very tight, and you need to be a really good driver to get in and out. There wasn’t much the gentleman could do about that.
