Old Powder House Inn

The location was great, and staff in the dining area were friendly. Breakfast was nice, though my husband wouldn't eat it, so we made other arrangements. We used to love this place, but this stay left me with mixed feelings. After-hours check-in was frustrating: the instructions pointed us to a different room, and our three calls ended in disconnections or hang-ups, so we had to walk around to find the room we'd booked. The room was average for a B&B. Sleeping was hard with the upstairs covered porch lights shining into the room and people talking right outside our window. We could see them, which meant they could see me in bed. Better window coverings would help. It was okay, but we probably won't return. Other places suit us better.

Parking was a huge plus in the historic district, where so many places in St Augustine don't have it. We could walk to everything there, and our buggy ride picked us up right at the front door. The owner and staff were fabulous, the food was wonderful, and everyone was gracious. The accommodations were beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Great service, gourmet food, and parking are hard to beat.

We had a spacious enough king room upstairs, Serenity, and would happily stay at The Old Powder House Inn again. Street noise eased after about midnight. Getting included off-street parking was a real help during the holiday season, when parking is at a premium in St. Augustine. From booking through check-out, everything went smoothly. The owner and others communicated clearly and helpfully, and the young woman serving breakfast was exceptionally courteous. The whole visit felt hospitable. I've already recommended the inn to two coworkers interested in visiting St. Augustine.

We’re already planning another trip. Breakfast was delicious, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Even the water pressure was perfect, which matters when you travel as much as we do. We’ve passed the Old Powder House many times, but this was our first stay, and it won’t be our last. Everyone made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. They offered a small pour of brandy, or wine if preferred, and the little details felt thoughtfully done. This was a lovely reminder of why we choose a Bed and Breakfast over a hotel. I’d hug the whole staff if I could. Thanks for such an inviting stay.
