We were there for two nights while my daughter competed in a dance event at the convention center next door. I was looking forward to the stay after seeing the photos and other reviews, but ended up disappointed. The lobby is pretty, the staff were nice despite being clearly overwhelmed, and the valets were attentive. Still, what we paid didn't match the rooms and service. Other dance families stayed off site for much less and had a better experience. Only two of the four elevators were running, so the lines were long. There were no stairs between the lobby and guest floors, just fire escape stairs that led outside. With dancers coming and going on different schedules and carrying large bags, the elevators were packed. Sometimes we boarded one that had room only to go up when we needed to go down, or the reverse. It was a nightmare, and we nearly missed several events. Our room felt dated and run-down, with a constant buzzing sound that made sleep difficult, lightweight doors that let in plenty of noise, a peeling tub, and weak water pressure. Other people at the competition told me they had flooded floors, sinks that kept running, and toilets that didn't flush well. At least our bathroom worked. I asked several times for an extra blanket and was told it was coming, but it never arrived. The restaurant and bar are small. There's no free coffee in the lobby, only the small pouches in the rooms. A shop sells Starbucks, but the morning line goes out the door.

Terrible experience, unfortunately. I've never complained about a hotel stay before, but this one deserves it. I checked out after three days at 10am, yet they charged me for a full day and the following day too. They also put two Aperol spritzes on my room bill, then charged me $72 for them. What expensive drinks! I called to dispute the charges and still got nowhere. Room service was really bad: there was hair on the bed when we checked in, and for three days in a row they only made the beds, without cleaning the bathroom or coffee makers. If you call yourself one of the best hotels, you need to provide better service. So disappointing.

The coffee machine has failed on two visits, but Lauren handled it once, and Andrew and Whitney did the same most recently. They still made an effort to serve us and suggested other coffees to brighten our day. That says a lot about the coffee shop team. We’ve been regulars at the Renaissance Hotel coffee shop for four years, and every visit has been a positive one. Chef Tony makes great breakfasts, and Chris is the best doorman ever. O'Neill, Jody, Richard, Brandon, Jay, Madalynn, Lauren, Andrew, Whitney, Maria and Nikki are all so welcoming and eager to help. As an elderly couple, we really appreciate their smiles and warm greetings. We wanted you to know how much we value their service. What a blessing!

My dog was made to feel welcome right from the start. When we pulled up, a lovely young man opened the main lobby door for us. Check-in was just as good, with professional, kind staff who clearly wanted us to have a great stay. The service was wonderful, and my dog was happy too. Thank you for such a lovely experience. I highly recommend this hotel.

The mattress was the one real downside. I found the bed extremely uncomfortable, and for the price of the room I hadn’t expected such a bad mattress. We stayed for two nights, though, and there was plenty to like: the room was clean, the staff were very nice, and the restaurant food was good. The breakfast buffet was good too, with nice service. We liked the Christmas decorations and the many phone options. The location was convenient, not too far from downtown St Ausustine.
