Ramada by Wyndham St George

Ask for a room on the pool side if you stay here. The other side faces a busy street and gets really loud, so it would be hard to sleep if you’re a light sleeper. The hotel has been renovated, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. It was hard to walk in without someone opening the door for you. Breakfast was okay, with the usual hotel choices: waffles, yogurt, muffins, fruit, cereal, and coffee. The dining space felt a bit tight.

For the price, this is a great option, with a convenient location and a good breakfast. The rooms were clean, though a little worn and dated. You could hear people in the hall and other rooms, but it wasn’t too bad.

Sylva is a rock star. She’s friendly and chatty, and even waits for people to pass her desk so she can say hello. She checks that you’re comfortable and tries to make things better if you aren’t. Andrew was friendly too when I met him at checkout. The service was exceptional. The hotel is in a perfect spot, right next to one outdoor mall and a few blocks from Red Cliffs Mall, with lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. Our room was very large, with a king bed and a comfy couch that pulls out. The couch was better for sleeping, though. My husband and I like soft beds and pillows, and the bed felt as hard as the floor while the pillows were like throw pillows. That’s personal preference, though, so if you like a very firm bed you may be comfortable. The room was extremely clean, smelled nice, and was quiet. No complaints apart from the bed and pillows. Breakfast was decent and standard: eggs, sausage, toast, bagels, English muffins, waffles, cereal, juice, yogurt in strawberry, red raspberry, and strawberry banana, plus apples and oranges. Peach, blueberry, or bananas would be nice additions. The hot food was hot and cold food was cold. We didn’t use the pool or hot tub, but they looked clean and inviting, and seemed busy whenever we walked by.

The room was adequate, but management wouldn’t give us even one extra hour for checkout. Our luggage had been lost on the way back from Tokyo, and after thirty hours of travel, a little more time would have helped a lot. I guess that’s not Ramada’s problem. Thanks a ton, Ramada. That’s sarcasm. The US hotel industry could learn a lot from Japanese customer service culture.
