The hot tub was a letdown. We went over 15 minutes before closing and were immediately told to leave because they said chemicals had just been added for the night. Breakfast wasn’t much to brag about, though it usually isn’t at hotels. The lobby looked nice and the guy at the desk was pleasant, so at first things seemed good. I’d booked online at a great rate, then saw why: the hotel is run down. There’s no elevator to the second floor, and the hallway needs repairs and new carpet. Our room had a locked balcony overlooking the indoor lobby. It felt uncomfortable to open the curtain, and without it the room felt like a dungeon. It was an okay stop for a road trip night, but I’d consider other places next time.

The room key only worked about half the time, and the curtains were missing on one side, so privacy was an issue. The bathroom was so small its door brushed the toilet seat. There was a microwave and fridge, but no coffee maker, no information about nearby restaurants, and no room service. For a place that calls itself a conference center, I expected better organization and accessibility. We were put in one of the “other buildings,” and the difference from the main building was shocking. It felt more like a motel. The shower rod was rusty and there was no hot water. When we called, staff said the maintenance worker was off and nothing could be done. They offered another room at 11 p.m., but my mother is handicapped, as I’d noted when booking, and she was too unwell to move that late. There are no elevators, and the long stairs to the second floor are difficult for someone with mobility problems. I was really disappointed, especially given the needs I’d clearly stated when booking.

We stay at the Redlion several times a year, and enjoy the breakfast and pickleball. The hot tub is the one thing that may make us stop coming. We go to hotels for the pool and hot tub at night, but during our four days there in December of 2025 it was painfully hot. People were afraid to get in, and those who did came out red and light headed. We asked the front desk to check it in the evening, and watched him do so. He said the temperature was fine. We told him no one could use it, but he said it needed to be that hot. I really hope they fix it. I don’t want to be boiled again.

The staff I met were all helpful and friendly, and having laundry on site was a big plus. The pool was a cool feature too. The room was clean, with no major problems except for a slightly strange smell near the door. The decor felt cozy and homey, though a bit dated. There isn’t much to do or see around the hotel, which isn’t the hotel’s fault. I think there’s a dinosaur museum nearby. They have a gym, but some machines weren’t working when I visited. Still, I appreciated having it available.

Writing this at 2:00 am because I can’t sleep. The room was dirty and disgusting, the mattress uncomfortable with springs digging into my back, the fan sounded like a tractor, and outside lights came through because there were no proper blackout shades. Please don’t make my mistake. Stay somewhere else. At check-in, the older hostess wasn’t very friendly, and I was surprised by a $100 hold, which was more than the room cost. They told me it would take 7-10 business days to get it back. I’ve stayed at much nicer hotels and never even heard of that. I also overheard a family asking for putters to play putt putt after the pool. They were told no because the hotel requires you to leave your ID until you return them. Insane.
