Best Western Plus Blaine at the National Sports Center

The room was large, pretty, and spotless, with a fridge and microwave. The beds were a little firm but still comfortable, with some give. It was quiet, and a good place to relax and sleep well. Breakfast was also good, with eggs, potatoes, pastries, waffles, and plump sausage in casings, all nicely served. There was always an attendant in the breakfast area. The hotel has an attractive entrance and personal, attentive staff.

It’s hard to find a hotel that welcomes cats as well as dogs, so I really appreciated that this one is pet friendly for cats too. The man at the counter was very kind, though I didn’t get his name. He had longer hair and glasses, and offered us a room away from the street so my cat wouldn’t get startled by noise. Topnotch customer service. Give that man a raise or some PTO!

The sheets and pillowcase had stains, so I would have given this place four stars otherwise. I got a different room and things were fine until I noticed the bathroom sink was clogged when I went to shave. I just dealt with it.

The housekeepers and breakfast attendant were welcoming and kind, which was the one bright spot for us. The rest of the stay was extremely disappointing. The pool and hot tub were unavailable, and the common areas looked worn, with peeling chairs and holes in the ceiling. In our room, the curtains had visible mold, the sink was completely clogged, the toilet struggled to flush, and the shower drained very slowly. There were unfinished paint patches and damaged light fixtures too. We brought the problems to the front desk twice, but got no concern or resolution. Given the state of the property and how the issues were handled, we won’t stay here again.
