The staff were wonderful. I’d booked the wrong date by mistake, but she fixed the reservation so my family could check in without any trouble. The hotel is in a beautiful historic building that’s been updated and is in excellent shape. It feels remarkably spacious, with broad corridors and impressively high ceilings in the rooms. Honestly, the accommodations felt better than many five-star hotels.

The bed was too firm for me, but otherwise I had a pleasant stay. My room was clean, spacious, and looked recently remodeled, and breakfast was excellent and free. It’s right beside Union Station. Parking tip: the hotel offers valet only, at close to $40 a night, but the garage across the street was $16 and there are other options. The hotel’s only entrance is on Kellogg. If you haven’t checked in yet, you’ll need to be buzzed in.

The old post office building is cool, and the rooms have lots of space and 18-foot ceilings. Housekeeping is unpredictable: your room may get cleaned or it may not, and if it doesn’t, even getting fresh towels feels like a big favor. Valet parking is expensive, and the hotel doesn’t offer another self-parking option. They’re short-staffed, so expect to wait for your car, especially in the morning. Breakfast has waffles, eggs, granola, yogurt, and coffee, but I’d give the taste about a 3 out of 5.

The rooms were clean, and the vaulted ceilings were a nice extra. The valet team was great too. I had a question before arriving and got impeccable help over the phone; check-in was quick and easy, and the front desk worker was great. The staff at the Hyatt downturn St. Paul are phenomenal. We’ll be back!

I stay here at least once a year for work, and sometimes more when I’m visiting the Twin Cities. It’s a cool place in the historic post office/custom house, and that setting gives it a different feel from an average Hyatt Place. The decor is similar to other Hyatt Places, but the ceilings are much higher than you’d expect and the hallways are bigger and airier. The staff have always been good during my visits. Amtrak passengers will find the location very convenient. RiverCentre is walkable, though the uphill trip from the hotel can feel like a haul if you’re carrying a lot. It’s still a pleasant walk. Parking has switched back and forth between self-park and valet over the years, and right now it’s valet. I prefer self-parking because the loading area in front is small. Once, a shorter valet brought my vehicle with the driver’s seat moved so far forward that I had to adjust it before getting in. That left me and the door in the rightmost travel lane on Kellogg Boulevard, where I nearly got hit by traffic. Even so, that one bad experience hasn’t changed how much I enjoy the hotel overall.
