Quality Inn St. Paul-Minneapolis-Midway

The AC worked and the bedding looked clean, and I had clean towels. The cleaning crew seemed to have done what they could. Most of the problems felt like a lack of upkeep: the place is dated, and that seems to fall on management or the owners. My door scanner was broken, and the door itself felt like a strong breeze could knock it down. The bedside lights didn’t work, and the remote only changed channels, so I had to use the TV buttons for everything else. The bathroom was dingy and yellow, with a toilet seat that hit the counter unless I held it up. The shower dispensers made it feel cheap. The towels were about the cleanest-looking thing in there. There was a musty or smoky smell, maybe from the old carpets. The outside doors were locked for exit only, so getting to an upstairs room near 250 meant a walk. Check-in and checkout took a while because there was no way to alert staff that I was waiting. I paid too much for this quality and would avoid the hotel on a future trip.

The so-called continental breakfast was just an empty coffee maker, and the pool wasn’t heated. The whole place seemed on the verge of falling apart. It reeked of cigarettes and marijuana. This was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, and I definitely wouldn’t come back.

The beds were decent, staff helped with our luggage, and the pool and hot tub area looked nice. There were good choices in the vending machines, parking was free, and I felt safe enough. But for hotel prices, the place had a motel feel and needs work. There was dust and staining on the walls, plus what looked like blood in the bathtub. There’s no elevator, so luggage has to go up and down the stairs, and the outlets need improvement. I didn’t see a breakfast bar, so I’m not sure one is there. The AC and heat were broken and made loud, disruptive noises. There was also a chemical release violation. I didn’t take photos, just a video, and I’ll post what I have.

The woman at the front desk was friendly. I was having work done on my home and needed somewhere to stay for a couple of days, but the stains on the top bedspread and the bugs were too much. I saw five or six roaches, and left with my two grandkids. I didn’t care about getting my money back, and they didn’t offer it anyway. I just checked out. It’s funny, the owners are from India, I really don’t think they have bugs in their home…
