Econo Lodge Saint Stephen

The room was nice, and the location worked well for me and my family visiting for the holiday. But I was caught off guard by the pet charge: our small Pomeranian cost $20 a night, so $40 for two nights. That felt extreme and took a big bite out of the budget. Next time, staying in Moncks Corner would be cheaper, and pets are free there, so I may do that instead. I've run into motel fees over the years that weren't made clear until after booking, and I believe this place is one of them. Policies and charges should be easy to find before people reserve, especially when a booking might be last minute. I believe in reading the fine print, but people shouldn't have to dig around to learn the fee for a tiny Pomeranian. I think $10 a night would be more reasonable. If a motel is worried about damage, it shouldn't allow pets. I'd tell others to check every detail and call before booking rather than rely on what's listed online.

The longer I stayed, the more hair I kept finding. There was hair all over the bed, pillows, bathroom sink, and floor, and they never cleaned my room during the week I tried to stick it out. The fridge barely worked, and people upstairs were loud all night, so I could hear everything from the neighbors. On the first night, the front desk person set off the hotel fire alarm at 1am. Probably one of the nastiest hotels I've stayed in. I'd highly recommend finding somewhere else. I'll never stay here again.

The breakfast is basic, with coffee, Tang, toast, cereal, or oatmeal, and the staff are friendly. I've stayed here three times for work in the area. The rooms were clean, the AC worked, and the shower had great water pressure. The ice machine worked, and the TV was adequate.

The front desk was kind and helpful when I checked in very late, and the rate seemed reasonable for what you get. The bathroom was clean, and there was no smoke smell in the room or hallways, which was a plus. The room was relatively clean too. I did find one hair in the bed, but no big deal, probably from housekeeping lol. A weird blue light out front shone through the window and was a little annoying, though not a big issue. Not a bad little spot for a quick overnight. I'd stay again if I'm back through this area.
