La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Stamford / New York City

We stopped for the night on our way north. It was convenient, acceptable, and worth the price. The bed was soft and comfy, and the room was better than I expected. The bathroom was rough, but they're doing a much-needed renovation and I look forward to seeing it afterward. Breakfast had the basics, which was nice to have. I'd stay again if I needed a quick place to sleep.

The location is great, access is easy, and the hospitality is good. The rooms give me peace of mind and plenty of creative freedom to get things done. When the pool is open, it’s a nice bonus and a chance to get away from it all. Most of the customer service is good, though they could answer the phone more reliably and be more flexible with refunds for unexpected cancellations.

The rooms are nice after the recent refurbishment, and the sign out front also mentions a Hawthorn Extended Stay at the property, which seems to be new. The attached Stamford Diner is excellent, so I’d skip the hotel breakfast and eat there. I’ve stayed here many times without this happening, so I don’t assume it was a scam, but check your card statement. At check-in, the desk charged me a $100 “deposit” and said it would be refunded at checkout. It was an actual charge, not a hold like other hotels use. The hotel never returned it, even though my receipt said it had been refunded. I couldn’t get a satisfactory answer when I called, so I disputed it with my bank. The bank and hotel eventually resolved it. Keep an eye out for that refund.

The front desk, housekeeping, and the continental breakfast staff have all been so warm and kind during my stay at La Quinta Hotel. The whole team is awesome. They’re respectful, professional, and genuinely caring with guests. I’d gladly recommend any of them, and I think the owner would be proud of the staff.
