Aladdin Inn

The room itself was clean and stocked, but the service left a lot to be desired. On our first night the shower handle was broken, so we couldn’t adjust the water temperature. I reported it and was told maintenance would come in the morning, but nobody showed up. Housekeeping also never replaced our dirty towels with clean ones, even though the room was clean when we arrived. Then, at 10:30 pm on our final night, after I got replacement key cards and my wife, two kids, and I had gone to bed, the front desk called to ask if I’d booked another room. It woke us up. I realize a big storm had passed through a few days earlier, but the shower still needed fixing, and that call could have waited until morning or been made earlier. This was our backup option after other plans fell through. I wish we’d stayed somewhere else.

Check-in and checkout were easy, and the staff were very friendly. There’s plenty of parking around the hotel, with room entrances at the sides and back. The location is convenient too, with a restaurant, gas station, and mini mart right next door. The bed was large and comfortable, with four pillows, but a bunch of things in the room missed the mark. There was no hair dryer, even though it was advertised, and the sofa listed in the description was missing. The microwave still showed the previous guest’s unused cooking time, which made me wonder whether it had been checked or cleaned. Water from the fridge freezer leaked onto the upper shelf and melted my ice cream overnight. The desk chair squeaked loudly whenever I moved, and some listed TV channels weren’t available. The smoking tables in the parking lot gave the place a sketchy feel. The room itself was less than I expected.

I woke up with bites on my legs and feet after the first night, then found more on my arm, stomach, and legs the next morning. I checked the sheets, mattress pad, and bed skirt, and stripped the bed down to the mattress cover, but didn’t see any bugs, eggs, or shed skins. The cover was torn in three places. There were black spots on the bed skirt near the headboard, though I couldn’t tell if they were mold, stains, or something else. I also checked the unused bed halfway and it hadn’t been made properly. The fitted sheet looked used, and the bottom flat sheet wasn’t pulled up or straightened. Maybe it was simply missed. The room, location, and atmosphere were decent, the price was fair, and it seemed to have been renovated in recent years. The bed was comfortable and the bedding looked and smelled fine. I’m not claiming there were bed bugs or that the cleaning was bad. I didn’t see any bugs, and I don’t know what caused the bites. Could’ve been fleas or a spider, maybe.
