Hampton Harbor Motel

We had a great time. The rooms are basic but clean and affordable, and the place sits at the far end of the beach. It's a good fit for a family that won't spend much time indoors. The beach was about a 4-minute walk, and being about 3/4 of a mile from the main boardwalk meant it wasn't crowded.

The clerk was pleasant, but I wouldn’t book this place again. The room’s air conditioning left a lot to be desired, and the beds really need replacing. Cleaning seemed limited to the bare minimum in our room, which isn’t okay whether the rate is $129 or $229. The accommodations weren’t horrible, but you get what you pay for. They advertise a rooftop pool, and it is there, but the water looked cloudy and disgusting, nothing like the website photo. It looked as if it could have used chemicals to clear it up. There’s parking onsite, though not enough for every room.

The front desk guy was so kind when he checked me in. We’d just finished a full week at a rental and decided to add one more night. This was the first place that showed an available room. Ours was on the top floor, right across from the pool. It was very clean, a bit dated, and the beds were really comfortable.

The owner was really kind and let me have a second night at the same rate, even though the price had technically gone up. It’s about a ten-minute walk to the beach, and well worth it, with lots of food choices nearby and the state beach close too. The price worked for a quick beach trip, especially as a cheap getaway for people in their early twenties. Still, it didn’t feel family friendly: both nights there was yelling and drunken arguing, and I’m not sure anyone was on staff overnight. The cable TV didn’t work well, and the pool was closed without that being mentioned when I booked. I gave it three stars because some of these problems could be due to short staffing.
