The owners were really kind, which means a lot to me. When my car needed to go to the shop, he even drove me so I could pick up my rental. The room was clean, the mattress was good, and they let me bring my small dog for a reasonable fee.

The owner was very nice, but the ants were all over, especially in the bathroom. I know that's not something they can help. The bed was too hard and high for me, and I never managed to fall asleep.

Pinos Tacos was excellent. For motels, though, I'd drive farther to Bay City, where there are numerous options for $350 a week, plus local and national dining. The Standish motel wasn't quaint, and the air conditioning barely worked. A friend of the White Star Motel owner sent us there, and that was my mistake. I was working in town and got charged $583 for one week. The Tasty Freeze next door wasn't quaint either.

The grounds were pleasant, with a picnic table, and the staff were very friendly and gave great service. I booked from the car after dark, going by the reviews, and was glad I did. The motel has a 1950s feel, but everything's updated. The rooms are a little small, though very clean, and ours had a microwave and fridge. The windows were relatively new and opened, which was nice. There was also a nice shower in a well-kept bathroom with an opening window.
