SpringHill Suites by Marriott Winchester

I really liked the modern, clean feel, and all the USB connections around the room were handy. The complimentary breakfast was a hit with my husband, especially the two-patty sausage and egg sandwich. The front desk woman was very kind and sympathetic when we mentioned the issue. There was no hot water for his morning shower, though mine the night before was great, so I had to take off a star. The bathroom barn door makes better use of the space, but its smoky glass lets the bright light through and can bother someone trying to sleep. Still, it was a great stay. And the no-pets policy is the best part. Hilton, take a hint from Marriott!

My team spends 200+ nights a year on the road, and this is probably the best value stay anywhere in the country. The free breakfast is great, with different hot choices every day and a hot cocoa bar. It’s super clean, the staff respond quickly, and there are nearby parking lots where you can leave a large truck overnight. Plenty of restaurants and shopping close by. A+

There’s plenty of food and shopping right in the same parking lot, which made this a great place to rest with the family. The hotel itself was top notch, clean, friendly, safe, and had all the amenities. We’ll definitely stay again when we travel through the area.

The rooms gave our group of five plenty of space, and the beds were comfortable. The couch bed works well for a kid since it’s a trundle that’s easy to pull out and put away during the day, though I wouldn’t expect it to suit an adult. There’s a roomy closet and a small fridge, but it doesn’t get very cold. Breakfast was really good, the staff were lovely, and the location is pretty good. It’s not especially charming, but having a Target next door is convenient. What really upset me was the waffle iron at breakfast. My son was supervised, but he suddenly tried to close it himself and burned half his fingers badly. He couldn’t reach the rubberized section of the handle, and the protective handle should be longer. He was screaming in pain, and that cost the hotel a full star for me. There were other problems too. The bathtub couldn’t be used because the plug was broken and tossed aside. The sink kept clogging, and its handle was so tight that turning it on sprayed the clogged sink water everywhere. I also can’t stand the bathroom door style I’ve seen in multiple SpringHill Suites: a huge sliding door with gaps, no lock, and translucent glass. Closing it doesn’t block the light, and every time one of our five needed to pee during the night, the bright light woke whoever was in the beds facing it. I loathe that door.
