Hampton Inn & Suites Detroit/Sterling Heights

The receptionist was kind and offered us an “upgraded” room after the first one turned out to be either still occupied or not cleaned. Someone's luggage and garbage were left there, and the bed and bathrooms were a mess. I appreciated her service. There was renovation work going on, which may explain the wet, moldy smell at the entrance and in the elevators. The hotel looks quite outdated overall, so I hope the work is meant to address that. As an HH member, this is my least favorite Hilton property.

The breakfast buffet was good and plentiful, the front desk staff were friendly, and this is probably a good place to stay, just not during renovations. We were only there overnight and were exhausted from traveling, hoping to rest. Construction directly above us was so loud during the day that things on our walls shook, and we had to turn the TV way up. I complained at the desk and was told the work would stop at 4 p.m. It did, but started again at 8 the next morning. It sounded as if the workers were right in our room. I asked to move to the first floor, but the hotel was full.

The beds were really uncomfortable, and the old hotel was a mess from renovations. Breakfast was just okay, though the hot waffles were nice.

The stained sheet on one bed cost it a star. We just put it on the floor for the night. I also don't like shampoo in a wall mounted bottle that other people can access, since I don't know if someone could have put something in it. Otherwise, we had a nice stay. The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating, the pool was relaxing after a long drive, seemed well maintained, and barely smelled of chlorine. All five of us had enough room to sleep. Breakfast had a decent selection of food and drinks, and the kids enjoyed making waffles. The lobby coffee was nearly perfect for me, black. There was a mijer within walking distance, which came in handy after I forgot shorts.
