La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Stockton

After my recent stay, I won’t try La Quinta again, even though I’d never had a problem there before. I stayed one night, and when the deposit was charged to my account, I called to ask why. The woman on the phone said there was a tear in the mattress and bedding, which I hadn’t caused, and asked whether I’d received the pictures. I had to ask them to send a photo so I could see what they were charging me for. The one picture showed a cut on the side of the mattress. I’d only have seen it by taking the bedding off, and I had no reason to do that. They took my deposit and seemed to expect me to accept it. I’ve never had a damage charge like that, especially one of that size, in all my hotel stays. I won’t admit to or pay for damage I didn’t do. I won’t go back, and if you stay there, be cautious.

Jasmine was a real highlight. I left a shirt and vest in the closet when I went to Tahoe for a couple of days during my week in Stockton, and she helped make sure I got them back before we left. She was extremely friendly and helpful. I’d come from Florida to visit family. The hotel was quiet and fine for the week, but pretty basic, as you’d expect for the price. If you want more, pay extra and choose somewhere else. My stay was split into two stretches, with the Tahoe trip in between.

For a road trip, the service from the team was better than I’ve experienced at most places. Jazzmin at the front desk stood out for her knowledge, professionalism, and warm, welcoming personality. The room rate was reasonable for the time I stayed. The La Quinta is also in a handy spot for exploring Stockton without traveling far from where you’re staying.

We left just an hour after checking in. My teenage daughter was frightened, and I have never felt so unsafe. We’d come from SF to Stockton for a sporting event and only needed somewhere to sleep, but we quietly packed up and drove away. We found another hotel a few miles away. The hotel was empty, and our first room was far from the lobby, facing a dark stairwell. There was nowhere to park nearby and no lighting. We asked the front desk to move us for safety reasons, but he put us in another spot even farther from the desk, and again the spaces outside the room were full. The room was supposedly ready, but it smelled like cigarettes. The walls were marked, the baseboards were dirty, the chair was stained, and neither of us wanted to use the toilet or shower. We thought we could manage since we were leaving at 5:40, but then we heard a man in the room behind us yelling, making noises, and swearing, while smoke filled our room. Outside, cars were doing donuts and burnouts in the next parking lot.
