Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites York NE - Market by IHG

We loved the location. It’s close to Lancaster, Strausburg, and Hershey, but away from the big crowds and at a much lower nightly price. The staff, from the front desk to housekeeping and maintenance, were all cheerful and ready to help. Our room was clean, the beds were really comfortable, and breakfast had a great selection of fresh food. We’re looking forward to coming back.

The location is a real highlight, with open lawn around the hotel, plenty of nearby restaurants, fast food within a mile or two, and a supermarket less than a quarter mile away. The rooms are clean and mostly quiet, and the free breakfast is hard to beat, even for someone like me who usually skips breakfast. Joseph and Nick were especially courteous and helpful, and the other staff I saw at the entrance were kind and smiling. My main frustration was the noise from staff around 8 or 8:30 in the morning. I work with people in other time zones, so being woken up only three hours after falling asleep was rough, especially since it wasn’t other guests. There was a lot of banging, plus yelling and laughing in the hallway or by the supply closet. I stayed about ten of the last fourteen days, and it happened consistently. I’m not sure what caused the banging, maybe loading carts. The HVAC was also inconsistent. In some rooms I had to set it to 75 to get 68 degrees, while in others 64 did the same. On a short stay that’s a hassle, and you can wake up cold even with the heat set at 72. Room 103 also didn’t have enough curtains to cover the window, so the sun came straight in and it could be a privacy concern.

I felt grimy staying here. The hotel seemed badly run down, and the bathroom had no working heater or sink drain. I even had to go downstairs with wet hair to find a hairdryer that worked. The decor has a 70s feel, and I wonder if that was the last time the place was renovated. The bathroom layout is unusual compared with other hotels. I could say more, but that’s enough.

The room was clean and fresh smelling, with spotless linens and working AC and heat, so I’d stay again. The hotel could use some updates, though. The carpet is worn, some spots need paint, and the decor feels dated. The staff were great, friendly, and incredibly helpful. They really made the stay.
