The owner was so friendly and accommodating, and the room was clean and fresh, with a comfortable bed and a nice downstairs sitting area. Inside, the old cottage has a cute, cozy feel that reminded me of going home to my mom’s. The exterior looked a little rough and overgrown. I came for a quick trip for the Catamount Ultra, and I’d definitely stay again. Honestly, I’d come back just for the homemade blueberry pancakes and home-style potatoes. The low-priced rooms were a good deal.

The hosts were really friendly, and the homemade breakfast was fabulous. It has a cozy, homey inn feeling, but getting checked in is unconventional. The place is dated, a bit dusty, and run-down. It’s not a terrible spot to sleep, though pulling up was a little discouraging.

I regretted not paying extra for somewhere nicer. The inn feels very dated, and the cleanliness was awful. Spiderwebs covered most of the windows and doorways, while stuffed bears looked like they’d been gathering dust for twenty years. Everyone talks up breakfast, but the whole place smelled like a grease trap.

The room was comfortable and the inside was clean. The hosts were helpful and friendly, and the common area has a mini fridge guests can use, which came in handy. I got French toast with crunchy bacon and potatoes for breakfast. It was tasty and just what I wanted, with real maple syrup and, I think, cinnamon sugar on the toast. They let you choose what they’re cooking, with the usual hot breakfast options. I’d booked the wrong weekend by accident, and Expedia wasn’t much help, but I called Bears Lair myself and they were happy to change the date and let me stay just the one night I needed. There are stuffed bears everywhere, which makes sense for Bears Lair Inn, lol. It’s no five-star hotel, and I knew that going in. The bumpy driveway could use fixing, and a little card with the wifi password in the room would be useful. Still, it’s worth considering if you want to spend less than at many other places around there.

The place was comfortable and worked for everything we needed on a fun weekend. The upkeep left me a little discouraged, though. Breakfast cooked at home was amazing, and the hosts were super friendly.
