Mountain Road Resort

There’s plenty of outdoor space for pets to roam, and it’s a good place to stay with them. The location is great and the price is modest, so I can’t complain too much. Some rooms badly need updating, and ice on the parking areas and sidewalks is a recurring winter problem. I’m taking a star off my previous review because this visit had a few maintenance issues: burned out bulbs, missing kitchen items, and trash on the balcony. Nothing major, but there’s room to improve.

We paid $215 for one night and walked into a room that looked untouched since the 80s. It smelled musty, felt worn out, and the “private patio” was just bare concrete with no chairs and a broken outdoor light. The bathroom floor was sticky. When we went to make coffee in the room, we found mold in the machine, probably left from who knows how long ago and never cleaned. The bed was rock hard. I don’t usually complain, but this was awful, and we definitely won’t be back.

The room was comfortable and convenient for the price, but several things were off. The bathroom fan and tub jets didn’t work, and the route to our building was unpaved and dark. Breakfast usually wasn’t available. There’s a hiking trail behind the property, but we couldn’t get past the second marker. It would be great if it’s kept up during ski season and the repairs mentioned on the sign go well.

The free Wi-Fi didn’t work, which topped off an underwhelming stay. The rooms barely met a basic cleanliness standard: stained carpet, a strong sanitizer smell, missing bulbs, mystery switches that seemed to do nothing, and no hand soap in the otherwise clean bathroom. The old mattresses were worn out and awful, despite the new furniture and decor. Calling this a resort feels like an overstatement. They advertise a spa, but where is it? Don’t expect useful information at check-in; the front desk greeted us with the enthusiasm of a brick. The staff could use some hospitality lessons. There are also no restaurant or bar, amenities I’d expect at a “resort.” It wasn’t the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, but they promise more than they deliver on quality and service.
